Dr. Morufu
Olalekan Raimi is a distinguished environmental and public health scientist
with over 15 years of cross-sectoral experience spanning academia, government,
consultancy, and international development. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental
Health Sciences and possesses deep expertise in environmental epidemiology,
hydrogeochemistry, pollution management, health policy, climate change, and
health impact assessments.
An expert
in environmental risk assessment, pollution control, and climate change
adaptation, Dr. Raimi has led groundbreaking studies that have shaped policy
decisions, influenced industry practices, and improved public health outcomes.
His extensive research portfolio includes critical investigations into water
quality management, heavy metal contamination, air pollution mitigation, and
the ecological impact of industrial waste. His work has contributed
significantly to scientific knowledge and has driven systemic changes in
environmental governance and regulatory frameworks.
Dr. Raimi
serves in several strategic roles, including as Sectoral Principal Investigator
at the UN Environment Programme’s International Methane Emissions Observatory,
and as a Consultant on Pharmacovigilance for the National Agency for Food and
Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). He has also served as a mentor under
the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) and the U.S. National Science
Foundation, supporting the development of emerging researchers.
As an
active researcher and science communicator, Dr. Raimi has published extensively
in peer-reviewed journals and contributed book chapters to Plos One, Springer,
and IntechOpen. He also reviews scientific manuscripts on platforms such as
PREreview. His research interests span public health, environmental toxicology,
groundwater contamination, biodiversity, and vaccine uptake among vulnerable
populations.
He is a
Fellow of the African Institute of Waste Management and Environmental Studies
and a member of more than 30 professional and scientific associations,
including the American Public Health Association (APHA), the Society for
Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), and the Citizen Science
Association (CSA).
Dr. Raimi
is deeply committed to sustainable environmental practices and public health
equity, particularly in the Niger Delta and the broader African context. He
currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Niger-Delta Institute for
Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases and as a Lecturer in the
Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology at the Federal University
Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.
